Cameroon’s ace makossa singer Nguea la Route died this Sunday 14th of June from a long illness. The cultural atmosphere of the country was heavy as Mama Nguea, as she was called by her fans was the second musician to die in a space of one week after Claud Name, another high ranking musician from the Noun division. Fans were not really surprise when they heard of the artist’s dead as she has been suffering from type A diabetes for almost two decades now. For the past couple of months, her health situation had deteriorated, leading to the amputation of her two legs. The artist had made a public demand for the donation of a sum of five million francs that was needed to fly her abroad for proper treatment, but unfortunately she could not raise that amount of money.
Louise Koubinom by her true names was a very talented makossa singer whose music was loved by almost everybody without distinction of age. With her fantastic voice, she made lyrics that depicted the unhappiness of some women in the game of love. As a woman, she longed for the protection of the woman’s heart as far as couple life was concerned. She sang love generally.
Mama Nguea did not start music in her youthful age like many musicians, “I was already a woman, I had a hair dressing saloon, I was of the Jehova witness faith, I thought that was all about my life, when my younger brother came up one day asking me to accompany him where he plaid music. And that is how it all started”. The 60 years old artist recounted. At her death, she left behind 11 albums that will immortalize her passage in this earth. Adieu Mama Nguea.
