The humanitarian medical ship dropped its anchored in Douala Cameroon yesterday Wednesday 16th August 2017 on the invitation of the head of state President Paul Biya.

The 152meters long hospital-sea vessel known as “AFRICA MERCY” is anchored in the Douala seaport since two days with the intention to stay for ten moths and give free medical treatments to about 6000 patients of all ten regions of the national triangle with different pathologies. Registrations were made earlier in the dates of 17th April to 17th May 2017. Registered patients are expected to move to the nearest government health centers of their different localities where they will be taken care of. The 1200 doctors and specialist that carries the hospital-ship will not only stay onboard the ship to treat patients but some will move around different government health centers of the country to carry out their benevolent actions amongst which future the operation of cataracts, tumors, labial and or palatal malformations. Also, they will not leave Cameroon without training some medical practitioners in the country.

Before reaching Douala in Cameroon, “AFRICA MERCY” was coming from Cotonou in Benin. The hospital ship moves from one country to another on invitations of the various governments. Popularly known as MERCY SHIPS, the gigantic sea vessel has sailed in 57 developing countries and 18 developed countries. Created in Texas, U S A by Donald and Dayon Stephens in 1978, the ONG MERCY own the 16500 tones ship that was made operational for this purpose in 2007 has a mission to improve the health conditions of the less privileged world’s citizens free of charge.
