CAMEROON: RE-BOUNCE OF COVID FROM THE WESTERN REGION

The Governor of the Western Region Awa Fonka Augustine sends a distress call as to the excess number of persons infected by the covid-19 pandemic in his area of command.  Sources say about 24 infected cases have been register in 24 hours in the Western region with 2 dead already. The situation is surprising because if there was going to be a re-bounce of the pandemic, it was supposed to be expected in Douala or Yaoundé which are a window to the world with their airports and seaports. Also with the end of the year fast coming, there is a lot of the diaspora coming from the highly affecter Europe continent who wish to spend the festive period with their families back at home. Of which there is even no entry barned place on people coming from the affected continent.

The illness was never announced to be over in the county by the authorities but it was noticed that the public was already abandoning the barrier measures. Masks are neglected already. The greater majority of the population is no more putting on their masks again. The distances are no more respected as people can be seen loaded on commercial bike and transport buses, hand washing is neglected already with the noted disappearance of the wash hand facilities that were provided in public places and then handshakes have resurfaced in the normal attitude of the everyday life.

However the motive of this look warm attitude of the population towards the warning measures of the authorities could be drawn from the fact that the covid-19 pandemic did not have a devastating effect in Africa like it was feared by many. Also Cameroonian believe that the virus could be tamed by our local pharmaceutical industry.
