CHAD: President Idriss Deby becomes Field marshal

The speaker of the Chadian House of Assembly, Ndia Jacques Haroun Tuesday 11^th August 2020 moved the Head of State Idriss Deby Itno from the rank of a Military General to that of a Field Marshal. This coronation was voted by a majority in the country’s National Assembly. But the opposition thinks that it is not correct to award the title to President Deby especially in coincidence with the country’s 60^th independence anniversary celebration.

President Idriss Deby Itno on the other hand underlines that he did not ask for the distinction. But says that he has to accept it in honor to the sacrifices made by the Chadian men and women that has permitted the country to enjoy its current peaceful status. It should be noted that President Deby was seen lately on the battle field alongside his army in the fight against Boko Haram terrorism putting on his 5 stars General military uniform. This was a strong moral booster to the men on the field. “No war is worth being honored if it is not backed by noble objectives. As much as my breath and my energy will permit me, I will personally be on the field” he said.
