
DAKAR PORT EXPELS CONSIGNMENT OF AMMONIUM NITRATE

A consignment of 2700 tons of ammonium nitrate found in the Dakar port is finally being removed today. The consignment of the toxic substance used to manufacture fertilizers and explosives that was destined for Mali was noticed to have been parked in the Senegalese port for quite some time. The port of Dakar is not very far from residential area as such the authorities of the country are very concerned. The owner of the unwanted good is not known.
The Dakar ports authorities requested for an urgent removal of the dangerous goods immediately. It was almost about the same quantity of Ammonium nitrate that was stored in the Beirut port in Lebanon that cause a huge explosion earlier this month that killed more than 200 people and damaged a large amount of materials not forgetting numbers of buildings across the city of Beirut. The explosion rendered about 25 000 people homeless.
Radio France International reported that many trucks carrying the dangerous material are already heading to Mali despite the military uprising that overthrew President Ibrahim Bubakar Keita last week.
