About 7.5 million Ivory are called this day for a highly contested presidential election this 31st October 2020 with a coalitions of opposition calling for a boycott of the exercise. The heavy weight opposition leaders has kept clamoring that the incumbent president Alassane Ouattara was not supposed to go for a 3rd term. Pascal Afin Ngusan, konan Bedie, Guillaum Soro and even Laurent Gbagbo say that a third term for Ouattara is anti-constitutional. This has justified the hostile atmosphere that characterized the campaigned period with about 30 people killed.

However, not all the opposition in Ivory Coast is preaching the boycott of the election. Kouadio Konan Bertin, an independent candidate puts his candidacy saying that it is important to go for the election. An action that legitimizes the candidacy of Alassane Ouattara. The 64 years old incumbent had adjusted the constitution in 2016 to permit him sit for a 3rd term of office. Now he says that the first two mandates that he had served are wiped off and he is starting afresh now. Implicitly he could go for another mandate if he wins this elections.

Though a lot of Ivorians and many Africans think that Alassane is working for the interest of France, there are still some diehards Alassane supporters who think that the septuagenarian is a country builders and a peace crusader and must go for another term of office. This is sparking the air in Ivory Coast right now.
