
MOHAMED EL BESHIR FINALLY CONVICTED

75years old former Sudanese President Mohamed El Bashir who was being judge in a special tribunal for murder and corruption since the month of August this year after he was ousted from power 11th April 2019 has finally been sentenced to 2 years in detention. The former dictator will be sent to the correction house according to the county’s law which states that when a person is 70 and above, such a person if convicted must be sent to a correction house for the old. After his conviction yesterday in a Khartoum court house, his sympathizers could be heard outside shouting, “there is no other god than God”. Talking to the press, his lawyer Ahmed Ibrahim said they will take an appeal in the Supreme Court. He also admitted that he did not have confidence in the Sudanese justice system.
Mr Beshir had admitted to have collected 90 million dollars from the Saudi government. But he was being judge foe 25 million dollars which he actually collected before his arrest. “This case is a political case”, Mohamed al-Hassan on other of his lawyers said. He continued to say that the money was not use for his personal needs. It was sent out as donations. A witness testified that the former president donated some 5 million euros to the Rapid Support Force (RSF) parliamentary group.
Before El Beshir’s sentenced, he was confined in the Khartoum central prison with common prisoners. The former dictator was evicted from power by a public protest that lasted for several months because of an increase in the price of bread. Mohamed el Beshir has been in power for 23years (since1993) and has ruled the country with and iron fist. The regime was noted for its high rate of corruption.
