CAMEROON: Journalist announced dead after 10months of detention.
Samuel Wazizi, Buea base television Journalist declared dead after ten months arrest by the forces of law and order. Wazizi was accused of giving information to the separatist fighters. He was announce dead two days ago after about ten months of custody. Report says Wazizi died in the Yaoundé Military hospital as a result of torture in the hands of uniform officers who arrested him August 2019.
Journalists of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalist (CAMASEJ) based in Buea this morning marched to the governor’s office to demand for Samuel Wazizi’s remains. There has been a general condemnation in and out of the country since the announcement of the unpleasant news by Equinox television Monday evening 03 June 2020.
The national syndicate of Journalists SNJC and the English speaking Journalist association CAMASEJ in their chock have condemned the killing and are at this moment brain storming on what action to take in manifestation of their frustration to the incident. Wazizi’s lawyer says he was kept in the dark on the where about of the journalist while he was in detention and he has vowed to continue the legal action. Cameroonians of all works of life, civil right activist, politicians and international organizations have condemned Samuel Wazizi’s killing in prison. Meanwhile, the government has maintained a suspicious silence about the issue.
