SENEGAL: NO TO INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY PRIZES

,Senegalese in the county’s capital Dakar have been protesting against for the third time against an increase in the price of electricity by the national electricity production company SENELEC. The electricity corporation made an increase of 6 to 10% in which only some consumers only are concern since the 1st of December last year, but the group of subscribers are vehemently against.

They say the prize hike comes as a result of gross mismanagement of the electricity company. The subscribers who have well organized themselves under a name known as “nyiolang” (meaning we refuse)  and have sent their representative, Mr Fadel Baro to meet a high personality in the country who is none other than the Senegalese forma president Abdulai Wade. The ex-Senegalese Head of State assured the protester of his personal support

The manifestations that were not only in Dakar and was propagating to other cities in the country counted among them bakers and members of syndicates and more than 40 other associations in the country including the political opinion leaders who are now not only asking for the reduction of the electricity prizes but also the liberation of protester who were incarcerated in the previous protests.
